協働による宣教活動の推進：現場からの報告
Fostering Collaborative Ministry: A Report from the Frontlines

過去3か月間、私たちは東京、名古屋、千葉、大阪、神奈川各地の現地の牧師やカタリストたちと直接交流してきました。こうした訪問を通してますます明確になってきたのは、日本のミニストリーリーダーたちが単に神学的な知識を求めているわけではないということです。むしろリーダーたちが切望しているのは、それぞれの都市特有の文化や現実の中で神学を文脈化できる実践的な環境です。情報やデジタルツールが氾濫する現代において、知識へのアクセスはかつてないほど容易になっています。しかし多くのリーダーは依然としてミニストリーにおける孤立感を経験しています。その結果、同じ仲間として顔を合わせて集まり、共に祈り、互いに励まし合い、福音を中心とした確固たる神学に根ざすことができる「物理的な空間」への需要が高まっているのです。
Over the past three months, we have engaged directly with local pastors and catalysts across Tokyo, Nagoya, Chiba, Osaka, and Kanagawa. Through these visits, it has become increasingly clear that ministry leaders in Japan are not simply seeking more theological knowledge. Rather, they are longing for practical environments where theology can be applied and contextualised within the unique cultures and realities of their cities. In an era saturated with information and digital tools, access to knowledge has never been easier. Yet many leaders continue to experience isolation in ministry. As a result, we are seeing a growing appreciation for physical spaces where leaders can gather face-to-face, pray together, encourage one another, and anchor themselves in robust, Gospel-centred theology.

私たちが続けてきた対話を通して日本全国に共通するテーマとして明らかになったのは、協力的な宣教への深い願いです。多くはそれぞれの街で福音が広まることを心から願っており、協力することの重要性を認識しています。しかし同時に、実際には協力が難しい場合も多くあります。過去からの関係や神学的な相違、組織の境界線、そして新しい取り組みに当然抱かれる慎重さが、信頼やパートナーシップの障壁となり得ます。クリスチャンが人口のごく一部を占めるこの国では、多くのリーダーが限られた資源や縮小するコミュニティといった現実の重さを感じています。協働の重要性は広く理解されていますが、教会やネットワーク、ミニストリーを越えて真の関係を築くには、多くの場合、忍耐と謙虚さ、そして意図的な努力が必要です。
Our ongoing conversations have revealed a common theme across Japan: a deep desire for collaborative ministry. Many leaders share a genuine burden to see the Gospel advance in their cities and recognise the importance of working together. At the same time, collaboration often proves difficult in practice. Historical relationships, theological differences, organisational boundaries, and a natural caution toward new initiatives can create barriers to trust and partnership. In a country where Christians represent only a small percentage of the population, many leaders feel the weight of limited resources and shrinking communities. While the importance of collaboration is widely understood, building genuine relationships across churches, networks, and ministries often requires patience, humility, and intentional effort.

それでもなお私たちは希望に満ちた兆しを感じています。リーダーが特定の組織や教会、個人ではなく、福音への共通の献身のもとに集まるとき、有意義な対話が生まれ始めます。そういったことから、神が日本全国で福音を中心としたパートナーシップのための新たな機会を創出し、障壁を少しずつ取り除いておられるということを私たちは信じています。
Yet we continue to see encouraging signs. When leaders gather around a shared commitment to the Gospel rather than around a particular organisation, church, or individual, meaningful conversations begin to emerge. We believe God is slowly breaking down barriers and creating new opportunities for Gospel-centred partnership throughout Japan.

Serving as a Catalyst for a Christ-Centered Movement

シティ・トゥ・シティ・ジャパン（CTCJ）の存在意義は、そういった、学びたい、つながりたい、協力したいという願いに直接応えるためです。そんな中、私たちが目指すのは、リーダーたちが真の関係を築き、それぞれの地域社会における福音宣教のために備えられるよう、質の高いトレーニングと信頼できる環境を提供することです。
City to City Japan (CTCJ) exists to respond directly to this desire to learn, connect, and collaborate. We seek to provide high-quality training and trusted environments where leaders can form authentic relationships and be equipped for Gospel ministry in their local contexts.

同時に私たちCTCJが目指すのは、こうした取り組みの「顔」になることではありません。むしろ私たちは、神がすでに成し遂げられている働きを支えるためにその舞台裏で奉仕する存在であるという自覚をもっています。そのために不可欠な役割を果たしているのが、私たちの「シティ・カタリスト」です。彼らは、それぞれの都市で神が働いておられる現実に深く献身し、このビジョンを現地の文脈に適用し、福音を中心としたムーブメントを草の根から起こそうとする支援をしています。さらに私たちは現在、「ファミリー・ファースト・ジャパン」をはじめとするいくつかの外部団体とも将来的なパートナーシップの可能性を探るための意図的な対話を始めています。
Our goal is not for CTCJ to become the face of these efforts. Rather, we see ourselves as servants working behind the scenes to support what God is already doing. To that end, our City Catalysts play an indispensable role. They are deeply committed to the work God is doing in their cities, carrying this vision into local contexts and helping cultivate Gospel-centred movements from the ground up. In addition, we have begun intentional conversations with several external organisations, including Family First Japan, to explore future opportunities for partnership.

私の周りで感じるのは、若い世代のリーダーたちが積極的に伝道や開拓をし始めていること、そのため他の教派や団体、先生方との繋がりを求めているように見えることです。また宣教師や日本に住み始める外国人クリスチャンの増加に伴い、新たな神様の動きと共に、大きな変化や新たな視点を持つことが求められています。最近の印象は多くの若い情熱のあるリーダーたちが増えていることで、30代の開拓者たちが東京都心部で教会を始めています。また多くのクリスチャンネットワークや宣教団体がお互いに意図的に繋がる意識を持ち初めているようにも感じます。
I get the sense that young leaders around me are beginning to take a proactive role in evangelism and church planting. Perhaps as a result, I feel they are seeking to forge connections with other denominations, organisations and pastors. Furthermore, the number of missionaries and foreign Christians settling in Japan is on the rise. Consequently, I also sense that, alongside this new movement of God, we are being called to embrace significant changes and adopt fresh perspectives. I have the impression that the number of passionate young leaders has been growing recently. Church planters in their thirties are establishing churches in central Tokyo. I also sense that many Christian networks and mission organisations are beginning to make a conscious effort to connect with one another.

多くのリーダーたちが積極的な繋がりを求めています。例えばネットワークを組む牧師同士がお互いの教会に招き合い説教をしてもらったり、お互いのカンファレンスでスピーカーとして協力するなど、今まで以上に相互の関わり合いがあります。また知り合いの牧師を互いに紹介したりなど、自然な関係を通して繋がりが広がっているように見えます。
Many leaders are seeking proactive connections. For example, pastors who have formed a network invite one another to preach at each other’s churches or collaborate as speakers at each other’s conferences; there is now greater interaction between them than ever before. It appears that these connections are expanding through natural relationships, such as pastors introducing one another to mutual acquaintances.

その中でCTCJでは、できるだけ近隣の牧師たちと定期的な集まりと祈りの場を協力してもつように心がけています。関係を深めるためじっくり時間をかけていますが、信頼関係を築くために必要なプロセスだと思っています。またお互いの教会の「目」になるように、「弟子訓練」というテーマに基づいて様々な話題について話し合い、弟子訓練に関する価値観や経験を分かち合う機会を設け、それを通じて互いに学び合っています。
As part of this, at CTCJ we endeavour to collaborate with local pastors to hold regular meetings and prayer sessions as often as possible. We take our time to deepen these relationships, as we believe this is a necessary process for building trust. Furthermore, in order to serve as ‘eyes’ for one another’s churches, we discuss topics based on the theme of ‘discipleship’ and create opportunities to share our values and experiences regarding discipleship, thereby learning from one another.

前期に引き続きCTCJは、東海地区の教会リーダーの皆さまに静かに寄り添いながら、主がすでに始めておられる働きを妨げることなく、むしろその働きを励まし、支える存在でありたいと祈りつつ歩んでいます。主ご自身がこの地で御業を進めておられることに信頼し、その御業に仕える喜びをもって関わり続けています。

Continuing from the previous term, CTCJ is quietly standing by the church leaders of the Tokai region, praying that we will not hinder the work that the Lord has already begun, but rather encourage and support it. We trust that the Lord Himself is carrying out His work in this land, and we continue to be involved in that work with joy.

今期も東海地区の福音ネットワークに、名古屋市および岐阜市から新しい方々が加えられました。主が新しいつながりを生み出してくださっていることを覚え、心から感謝しています。毎回、今池にあるマスターシードクリスチャン教会（MSCC）を会場として用いることができていることも大きな祝福です。主とMSCCの皆さまのご協力に深く感謝するとともに、これはシティにおける主にある協働の恵みであると実感しています。

This term, we have welcomed new members from Nagoya and Gifu to the Tokai region's evangelical network. I am deeply grateful for the new connections the Lord is creating. It is also a great blessing that we are able to use Master Seed Christian Church (MSCC) in Imaike as our venue each time. I am deeply grateful for the cooperation of the Lord and everyone at MSCC, and I truly feel that this is a grace of collaboration in the Lord within the City.

また、東海地区の福音中心のネットワークに賛同してくださる方々が、少しずつ確かに増やされていることは大きな励ましです。毎月のインキュベーターに参加できない方々もおられますが、そのような中にあっても、神さまが不思議な方法で私たちを用いてくださることを信じています。主が福音ムーブメントをご自身のタイミングで力強く進めてくださることを期待し、祈り続けています。

Furthermore, it is a great encouragement to see the number of people who support the evangelical-centered network in the Tokai region steadily increasing. While some are unable to participate in the monthly incubator sessions, I believe that God will use us in wondrous ways even in those circumstances. I continue to pray, expecting the Lord to powerfully advance the evangelical movement at His own pace."

CTCJは、主が地域教会の牧師やリーダーを通して進めておられる働きに寄り添いながら、共に次の一歩を踏み出していく伴走者でありたいと願っています。今期も新たに2名の方がインキュベーターに加えられ、活発な対話と温かなフェローシップが育まれていることに感謝しています。

CTCJ aspires to be a partner in taking the next step together, supporting the work that the Lord is advancing through pastors and leaders in local churches. We are grateful that two new individuals have joined us as incubators this term, fostering active dialogue and warm fellowship.

From April, Katsuro Hattori will serve as Director of Strategic Partnerships and Your involvement as part of the Movement, and your prayers and support for the Tokai region's evangelical network, are a great encouragement to us.

また昨年に続き、5月11日に東海福音フェローシップ（TEF）に服部氏と共に参加する機会が与えられました。東海地域の牧師・リーダーが集い、関係を深めるこの場に参与できたことを感謝しています。災害時にも助け合うことができるよう、日頃から関係を築いていくこの取り組みにおいて、主が教会同士をさらに結び合わせてくださることを期待しています。
Furthermore, following last year, we were given the opportunity to participate in the Tokai Evangelical Fellowship (TEF) on May 11th together with Mr. Hattori. We are grateful to have been able to participate in this event where pastors and leaders from the Tokai region gathered and deepened their relationships. We hope that the Lord will further unite churches in this initiative, which aims to build relationships on a daily basis so that we can help each other in times of disaster.

この地で主が確かに働いておられることを覚え、関わってくださっているすべての方々に感謝します。東海の教会がさらに結び合わされ、福音が広がっていくよう、引き続きお祈りいただければ幸いです。

大阪は、常に活気に満ちた街です。2025年の万博で数百万人の来場者が訪れた後、人混みは以前ほどではなくなりましたが、決して活気が衰えているわけではありません。4月になると、多くの新入生や企業の新入社員が大阪にやって来ました。新しい生活、新しいチャンス、そして福音を伝えるべき場所がたくさんあります！
Osaka is a city that keeps on going. After the millions of visitors that came in for the 2025 World Expo, it's less crowded but it's definitely not slow. As April came around many new university students moved into Osaka along with new hires for companies. New life, new opportunities, lots of places to reach with the Gospel!

現在、大阪では複数の組織やグループが、新たな教会の開拓に向けた準備を進めています。私たちはこうした開拓者たちと出会い、彼らが地域教会と健全な関係を築き、繋がりを持てるよう支援することに大きな喜びを感じています。また、夏に向けて多くの宣教チームの受け入れが予定されており、こうした繋がりがさらに深まることを期待しています。
We are currently witnessing various organisations and groups preparing to plant new churches across the city. It is deeply encouraging to connect with these planters, helping them foster relationships and integrate into the local church landscape. As we look toward the summer, we are also preparing for the arrival of multiple mission teams, which we hope will further strengthen these collaborative efforts.

今期、翻訳部門では「言葉を訳すこと」以上の働きの重要性を教えられています。教材の翻訳や編集、関係者との調整を通して、学びやビジョンが言語や文化の壁を越えて人々に届くための橋渡しのような働きが増えているからです。また、教材制作や配布のプロセスを整えることも、この働きを支える大切な奉仕の一つです。定期的にインキュベーターの学びの場に足を運び、資料がどのように活用されているかを確認しながら、改善できる点を制作プロセスや教材に反映させています。

This quarter, our Translation Department has been learning the importance of our work that goes beyond simply translating words. Through translating and editing training materials, as well as coordinating with various team members, I have increasingly found ourselves serving as a bridge that helps learning and vision cross linguistic and cultural barriers. I have also come to recognise that improving the processes behind content development and distribution is an important part of this department. By regularly participating in Incubator learning environments, we observe how these resources are being used in practice and incorporate insights and improvements into both the materials and the production workflow.

インキュベータートピックでは毎月、共同執筆記事を掲載しています。その内容は、数名のアドバイザーとのランチミーティングでの対話や学びを反映したものです。どのようにすれば、忙しいスケジュールの中で参加してくださるアドバイザーの皆さんにとっても意義のある場になるだろうかと模索してきました。

Each month, we publish a collaborative article on the Incubator topic, drawing from discussions during our Advisors` Lunch meetings. One question I have continually considered is how to make these gatherings meaningful not only for the article-writing process but also for the advisors who take time out of their busy schedules to participate.

そのような中、あるアドバイザーから「これは皆が参加したほうがいいミーティングだと思います。自分自身の学びもさらに深められますから」という言葉をいただきました。この言葉は、記事制作のためだけでなく、参加者同士が共に学び、成長する場として用いられていることを示す励ましとなりました。神様がこの対話の場を通して、一人ひとりの学びを深めてくださっていることを感謝しています。

This quarter, one advisor shared, “I think everyone should attend these meetings. They deepen my own learning as well.” Hearing this was deeply encouraging. It reminded me that these conversations are more than a source of content—they are opportunities for mutual learning and growth. I am grateful to see how God is using these gatherings to deepen understanding and strengthen those involved.

次のステップ What's next?

次の四半期は、インテンシブ開催に向けた準備が本格化し、年間で最も忙しい時期になる見込みです。そのような中で特に期待しているのは、36モジュールすべての教材がトレーナーの準備が十分できる期日までに完成することです。また、インテンシブ参加者の募集が始まり、2年前に初めて導入したプレラーニングプログラムが参加者の事前準備として再び活用されることを楽しみにしています。これまで積み重ねてきた教材や学びの機会が、参加者の成長と学びに役立てられることを願っています。

The upcoming quarter will likely be the busiest season of the year as preparations for the Intensive continue. In this context, what I am particularly hoping for is that all the teaching materials for the 36 modules will be ready by the target date, so that trainers have sufficient time to prepare before the Intensive begins. I am also encouraged to see registration for the Intensive begin and the pre-learning program, which was first introduced two years ago, being used once again to help participants prepare for the Intensive experience. I look forward to seeing the resources and learning opportunities that have been developed over time support participants in their growth and learning.
